Admission criteria
We welcome people:
– All ages, regardless of medical diagnosis.
– For an end-of-life stay in a calm, reassuring family environment.
– For temporary respite for caregivers, or for pain and symptom control.
If you have any questions about admissions to the MMFS, whether in the context of an AMM or not, we invite you to contact the MMFS liaison nurse at admission@mmfs.org or by telephone at 819-770-3900 ext. 234.

Prerequisites :
- The prognosis for life is approximately three (3) months or less, depending on medical assessment.
- The person and his or her loved ones understand that curative treatments are no longer appropriate and consent to comfort palliative care (level of care 4 – non-resuscitation).
Priority is given:
- for people living at home;
- those living alone or without family support;
- people who are eligible for readmission after a previous stay at the Maison.
Ontario patients must have private insurance or pay their own drug costs, since provincial insurance (OHIP) is not valid in Quebec.
Here’s an overview of what we offer in a safe and welcoming environment:
Medical aid in dying (MAID)
- In addition to traditional palliative care residential services towards a natural end of life, two trajectories are available to patients at the end of life who wish to receive AMM:
- Admission for regular accommodation with no predetermined duration. In this case, the patient is considering medical aid in dying, but still wishes to benefit from the palliative care offered by the MMFS for a certain period of time before choosing the date of his or her MA.
- Planned short-stay admission, i.e. admission for the sole purpose of receiving the AMM on the same day.
- In both cases, admission and prioritization criteria must be respected.
Admission criteria:
- People of all ages;
- Regardless of the diagnosis;
- Priority is given to Outaouais residents (region 07);
- The life expectancy of the admitted person must be evaluated at three (3) months or less.
Prioritization of admissions:
- Only patients with an estimated prognosis of three months or less may be admitted to the Maison Mathieu Froment-Savoie, without exception.
- In keeping with our community mission, priority is always given to requests for palliative care accommodation or respite care from people living at home or in RPAs, i.e. requests from family doctors and the CLSC.
- To help the network prioritize curative care, priority is then given to patients currently receiving palliative care in the emergency departments and on the inpatient floors of regional hospitals.
- Requests made for the sole purpose of receiving medical assistance in dying are considered only for patients with an estimated prognosis of three months or less, without exception.
- People applying for admission for the sole purpose of receiving AMM (planned short stay) are admitted when all active requests for palliative care have been filled, and depending on the availability of human and logistical resources.
